What is an open House?:

An "open house" refers to a special meeting or event organized by a Toastmasters club that is open to the public. The primary purpose of an open house is to showcase what a Toastmasters club does and to attract potential new members.

During an open house, the club typically conducts a regular Toastmasters meeting, including prepared speeches, impromptu speaking (Table Topics), and evaluations. However, these meetings are designed to provide a glimpse of what Toastmasters is all about and to encourage visitors to join the club.

Open houses often feature:

Welcoming and networking:
Visitors are greeted warmly and have the opportunity to meet club members.

Club presentations:
Club officers or experienced members may give presentations about the benefits of Toastmasters, the structure of the organization, and the specific advantages of joining that particular club.

Speech showcases:
Members may deliver speeches that demonstrate the educational and personal development aspects of Toastmasters.

Q&A sessions:
There is usually a question-and-answer session where visitors can ask questions about Toastmasters and the club.

Membership information:
Information about membership fees, meeting schedules, and club resources is often provided.

The goal of an open house is to attract new members who are interested in improving their communication and leadership skills. It's an excellent opportunity for guests to see firsthand how Toastmasters meetings work and how they can benefit from joining a club.

Educational Session:

A Table Topics session in a Toastmasters club is a segment of the meeting where members practice their impromptu speaking skills. During this session, participants are given a random topic or question and have a short period (usually one to two minutes) to speak on that topic without any prior preparation. Table Topics is a valuable exercise in developing the ability to think on one's feet and communicate effectively in spontaneous situations.

Table Topics sessions are an essential part of Toastmasters meetings, as they help members improve their ability to speak confidently and coherently without preparation. They also enhance critical thinking, organization, and communication skills. Additionally, Table Topics sessions are often considered a fun and engaging aspect of Toastmasters meetings that challenge members to step out of their comfort zones and embrace spontaneity.
